The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has allotted 40,000 sq .ft. of land to the Jal Nigam for constructing a 140 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) under the Namami Gange project.
Located near the New Link Road flyover, the facility will treat wastewater from seven major drains before it reaches the Harnandi River. The Jal Nigam had awaited land transfer since completing the DPR, and officials say the STP will provide major relief to residents affected by polluted drains, especially during festivals. Water samples from several locations earlier this year showed critically low oxygen levels, reaffirming severe pollution.
The project includes Rs 380 crore for the STP and drain tapping, plus Rs 630 crore for construction and 15-year maintenance. Initially mandated by a 2010 High Court order, the project stalled due to land issues but will now proceed near the Biodiversity Park.
