The Central Public Health and Engineering Organisation (CPHEO) has accorded approval for the development of a new water treatment plant in Sambalpur, Orissa.
The project, with 15 million ltr per day capacity, has been proposed by the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED). The project will also involve underground sumps and overhead tanks at different places of the city. The estimated budget for the plant is Rs 38.81 crore.
There is already a water treatment plant at Bareipali in the city. However, the PHED had sent the proposal for setting up another water treatment plant to ensure equal distribution of water to the entire city.
This new plant is expected to reduce the burden on the existing water treatment plant at Bareipali and is expected to help in equal distribution of water in the city.
