Gruner Renewable Energy (GRE), has announced India’s first Napier grass Bio-CNG plant, based in Lasanpur village, Wardha district of Maharashtra. This plant is scheduled to be completed in November, 2023.
Gruner Renewable Energy (GRE) and BioEnergy Germany have signed a partnership agreement to develop 100 Bio-CNG plants using multiple feedstocks like Napier grass, in India. GRE has constructed the plant for APSS Adarsh Bio Agro, which has a daily input capacity of 50 tpd, producing an output of three tonne of gas per day.
Napier grass, a fast-growing and high-yield energy crop is seen as a renewable resource for producing compressed natural gas (CNG). With its rapid growth rate, high energy content, and minimal water requirements, it has emerged as a sustainable alternative to conventional fossil fuels and renewable energy expansion.
In India, the recorded yearly annual production yield of Napier grass is approximately 150-200 tonne per acre, which stands notably above energy grasses such as miscanthus and switchgrass.
