The Gujarat Assembly, on 10 March, 2025, approved the Urban Development Department's budgetary demand of Rs 30,325 crore for 2025-26, marking a 40 percent increase from the previous year. The state government declared 2025-26 as the "urban development year."
Minister Rushikesh Patel announced Rs 450 crore for infrastructure in newly formed municipal corporations and an increase of Rs 50,000 per house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He stated that 78.33 percent of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II is complete, with the remainder set for June 2025.
Surat Metro Rail Project is 57.20 percent complete, expected to finish by October 2025. A budget of Rs 200 crore is proposed for developing cities and towns with religious significance, including Dwarka, Somnath, and Pavagadh.
