Hindustan Construction Co bagged an
order worth Rs.415 crore from Municipal Corporation of Brihamumbai for
construction of a water tunnel from Maroshi to Ruparel College in Mumbai.
The tunnel will replace the old upper
Vaitarna and Vaitarna mains in this section and will improve the water supply to
Vakola, Mahim, Dadar and Malbar Hills. The tunnel will be laid underground by
digging a shaft 90 feet deep and then excavating the tunnel horizontally using
the tunnel boring technique. It will connect the existing Ruparel College to Dr.
E Moses road tunnel that supplies water to Malabar Hills. It will be completed
in 2012 and will supply 1100 million liters daily. On completion, this pipeline
will bring additional 378.54 million Liter of water per day (mld) and is
expected to be completed within 45 months.
This the second major order bagged by
the company from BMC for water tunnel construction.
