The Haryana Government has drawn out an investment blueprint of Rs 332.92
crore for the improvement and preservation of water bodies in the state which
include the Kotla lake in Mewat, Bhindawas lake in Jhajjar and Bibipur lake in
Kurukshetra.
The state government had already sanctioned the rehabilitation scheme of
Kotla lake, Bhindawas lake and Bibipur lake. The requirement of water is likely
to be fulfilled up to some extent with the improvement and preservation of these
water bodies.
The state government has drawn a Rs 47.74 crore plan to set up a water body
in Kotla lake to use the rain and spare water for irrigation purpose and have a
plan for the rehabilitation of water bodies that were closed for more than 20
years. A plan has been outlayed for acquisition of 130 acre to collect the water
in Kotla lake. The collected water is to be used for irrigation purpose in dry
area of Mewat district.
Digging and excavation of silt has begun in the Bhindawas lake at a cost of
Rs 46.98 crore with completion slated for April 2010. Similar rehabilitation
plan has been sanctioned for Bibipur lake.
The state government had also a plan to connect Kanthala supply channel with
head regulator of Sarswati drain. A new Lukhi dam is likely to be set up to keep
separate the acquired and the non-acquired land of lake. As per the revised rate
of land the estimated cost was Rs 228 crore.
Work of desilting in Ottu lake in Sirsa at the cost of Rs 69.68 crore is also
underway. This work has been financed under Rural Infrastructure Development
Fund of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. There is a plan for
digging about 1,000 acre of area upto six ft deep and its maximum work has been
completed so far.
