Haryana is set to expand its network of common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) by adding eight new facilities with a combined capacity of 146 million litres per day (MLD), to be completed by December 2027.
This move complements the existing 23 CETPs, which currently treat 214.6 MLD of industrial wastewater from 1,439 industries. Rapid industrial growth in clusters like Faridabad, Gurgaon, Sonipat, and Yamunanagar has strained existing treatment infrastructure, necessitating this expansion. The initiative aims to reduce industrial pollution, safeguard water bodies, and promote wastewater recycling—currently, about 129.5 MLD of treated water is reused.
Environmental experts emphasise the need for transparency and technological innovation, including a digital dashboard for real-time data from CETPs to ensure accountability. This effort aligns with national priorities on water conservation and sustainable industrial practices, addressing health risks from untreated effluents and positioning Haryana as a responsible industrial hub.
