The Bulk Drug Park at Una, Himachal Pradesh, has received environmental clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
Conceived under the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers’ Scheme for Promotion of Bulk Drug Parks (launched March 2020), the project aims to boost self-reliance by reducing dependence on imported APIs/KSMs. The Himachal Pradesh Department of Industries had submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR), which secured final approval from the Scheme Steering Committee in October 2022.
With a capital cost of Rs 2,071 crore—including Rs 996.45 crore Grant-in-Aid from the Centre and Rs 1,074.55 crore from the Stat, the park has an investment potential of Rs 8,000–10,000 crore. It is projected to generate 15,000–20,000 direct and indirect work opportunities.
Implemented by the SPV Himachal Pradesh Bulk Drug Park Infrastructure, the project is now fully compliant with MoEF&CC’s norms. It marks a milestone which enables the creation of one of India’s largest pharmaceutical infrastructure projects.
