On 15 July, 2025, Hitachi Energy handed over India’s first 400 kV class three-phase synthetic ester fluid-filled power transformer for Power Grid Corporation of India.
This landmark development marks a major advancement in sustainable, high-performance power solutions, the company said in a statement. Engineered for future-ready operations, the 315 MVA transformer operates at higher temperatures and supports larger load capacities, resulting in reduced operational costs, superior energy efficiency, and significantly enhanced safety. “The ester fluid-filled transformer is the largest-of-its-kind in India, both in terms of kV class and MVA rating,” Hitachi Energy noted.
Manufactured at Hitachi Energy’s Maneja facility in Vadodara, using its Trafostar global platform, the transformer symbolizes progress toward the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative in the energy sector. The biodegradable synthetic ester fluid, with a high flash point of 330 degree Centigrade, dramatically reduces fire hazards and minimizes environmental risks, making it suitable for densely populated or environmentally sensitive areas.
