The bidding pipeline of the inter-state transmission system under tariff-based competitive bidding (ISTS-TBCB) framework has received a significant boost with six mega schemes worth Rs.29,092 crore cleared by the National Committee on Transmission (NCT) in mid-August 2025.
This marks the largest set of clearances in recent history, both by cost and number of projects. The cleared schemes serve varied objectives: two aim to strengthen interregional transfer capacity, two target renewable energy integration in the southern region, one focuses on power evacuation to green hydrogen/green ammonia plants in Andhra Pradesh, while another will evacuate hydropower from upcoming projects in Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang basin.
The projects have been evenly distributed between bid process coordinators PFC Consulting (PFCCL) and REC Power Development & Consultancy (RECPDCL), with bidding to commence post Union Power Ministry’s final approval. Collectively, they involve over 5,000 ckm of transmission lines and 48,000 MVA transformation capacity, covering western, eastern, northeastern, and southern grids.
