Kinet Railway Solutions, established as a joint venture (JV) between Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) and Russian transportation company Transmashholding (TMH), looks to support development of three depots for indigenous manufacture of train sets in India.
This includes the Marathwada Rail Coach Factory (MRCF) in Latur, Maharashtra which been taken over by Kinet for manufacturing Vande Bharat Sleeper train sets, is currently undergoing equipment installation and will be equipped with a modern assembly line, including facilities such as body shop, storage, assembly, testing and trolley and paint shop. The JV company took over operational control of the Latur plant at the end of June, 2024, and commenced operational activities in September.
“The supply chain team is collaborating closely with Indian suppliers to ensure the project’s success. A number of supply contracts have been signed already; others are currently in negotiation,” TMH CEO Kirill Lipa said. "The long-term intention is to build an industrial hub to manufacture components to meet the needs of both the Indian market and export to other BRICS countries,” he further stated.
