JSW Energy has commissioned its first green hydrogen manufacturing plant, marking a pivotal step in India’s clean energy transition.
The new facility, the largest of its kind in the country, is strategically located next to JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar plant in Karnataka. This plant will supply 3,800 tonne per annum (TPA) of green hydrogen, and 30,000 TPA of green oxygen, supporting low-carbon steel production. Under a seven-year agreement, JSW Energy will provide green hydrogen to JSW Steel. The plant is part of the company’s allocation under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program, with further plans to increase hydrogen supply by 2030.
The company has also entered into a memorandum of understanding with JSW Steel to gradually supply 85,000–90,000 TPA of green hydrogen and 720,000 TPA of green oxygen by 2030. These efforts are in line with the Company’s sustainability objectives. This initiative supports India’s green hydrogen goals, positioning JSW Energy as a key player in the nation’s clean energy push.
