Surat is set to get its tallest building with 29 floors, over 100 mtrs. in height, at Mota Varachha area. A residential project on the banks of Tapi River, it will be developed by Karma Builders at an outlay of Rs 100 crore. The developer has got the nod by Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) with a permission letter to go ahead with the project after getting the same approved by the special technical committee (STC) of the state government.
Any building of 100 mtrs. in height or above is required to be cleared by STC which includes Principal Secretary (Urban Development and Urban Housing), structural and soil experts, Director of fire services and the SMC town planning department’s deputy commissioner.
Named ‘RIO-29’, the project will have a floor space index (FSI) of 5.4 and come up on an area of 5,089 sq. mtrs. It is likely to be completed in the next three to four years. The proposed building will have twin towers and would be built in the shape of a concave. On each floor, there would be two flats.
Till now, Surat Municipal Corporation’s administrative building with 27 floors, which is under construction was the tallest in the city.
