Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed officials to release water from dams to support farmers in commencing cultivation. Speaking at the KRS Dam near Mysuru after offering baagina to the River Cauvery, he emphasised the need for timely water release.
The CM instructed that water be released through canals and clarified that Karnataka has already released 42 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu—well above the 9.1 TMC required as of June under the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal order. This, he said, ensures that there would be no resistance from Tamil Nadu to Karnataka's irrigation plans.
The CM also highlighted the government's financial support to the agricultural sector, stating that Rs 25,000 crore has been allocated to the Water Resources Department (WRD), and Rs 19,000 crore provided as pumpset subsidies. Additionally, Rs 3,000 crore was announced for the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam.
