NTPC is moving towards concluding power purchase agreements for its 2,400 MW capacity addition at the Ramagundam project in Telangana. While the state has agreed to procure 800 MW, other states like Karnataka, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh have also come forward to purchase power from the expanded capacity.
Currently, Karnataka plans to take 600 MW, Punjab 400 MW, and Andhra Pradesh 1000 MW, making up for Telangana’s reduced share. The Ramagundam thermal plant, originally assured under the AP Reorganisation Act, will have 4000 MW once completed. Phase-I has already commissioned 1,600 MW, with another 2,400 MW to go under development once the PPAs are finalised.
Furthermore, NTPC has entered a joint venture with the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh for a renewable energy project through NTPC Green Energy.
