Kerala's Anakkampoyil-Kalladi-Meppadi four-lane tunnel road project, aimed at easing the chronic traffic congestion on Thamarassery Ghat, is progressing rapidly.
Estimated at Rs 2,134 crore, this tunnel will provide a smooth, all-weather route through the challenging hilly terrain. Bhopal-based Dilip Buildcon has been awarded the construction contract, with Punia Construction Company handling the bridge across Iruvazhinji river. The Public Works Department (PWD), with funding from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), oversees the project.
The 8.73 km tunnel will link Wayanad and Kozhikode districts, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time. The tunnel’s completion is expected in four years, pending continued progress. The project is expected to transform the region's travel experience, benefiting both locals and tourists.
