As confirmed with Projects Today, Kia Motors Corporation is expected to commence commercial production at its passenger cars unit by February 2019. Phase-I of the unit will have a capacity to produce three lakh cars per year.
In 2017, Kia Motors Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh government and was offered about 600 acre of land in Anantapur district. In a year’s duration, in February 2018, Kia Motors Corporation held a framework installation ceremony and commenced project work.
Talking to Projects Today, the promoter disclosed that civil and machinery erection work has been completed. Besides, trial production was underway on the site. With an investment of Rs 6,000 crore, the project will generate employment opportunities for 10,000 people.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) bagged a contract worth Rs 174 crore for ground levelling work. HEC India was appointed as civil contractor for construction and erection work. Hyundai Architects and Engineers is associated with the project as the design consultant.
