Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on 04 September, 2025 virtually inaugurated the Koramangala-Challaghatta (KC) Valley Phase-2 project, which involves filling 30 lakes in Kolar taluk from the Lakshmisagar Pump House.
The CM said the project, initiated during his earlier tenure (2013–2018), aims to recharge groundwater in Kolar, Chikkaballapura, and Bengaluru Rural by daily pumping treated water into over 250 lakes. “In the first phase, lakes in Kolar and Chikkaballapur were filled with treated water. This water is not used for drinking, but the groundwater level has improved in the area where the lakes have been filled,” he stated.
The second phase, scheduled for completion by December, will expand coverage to 272 lakes. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said the initiative has already boosted groundwater and urged MLAs to spread awareness. Minister N S Boseraju noted nine new pumping stations are planned, with Rs 446 crore allocated for the project.
