Trichy Corporation has achieved around 92 percent completion of Phase III of the underground drainage (UGD) project across peripheral city wards and aims to commission it by January 2026.

Officials confirmed that Phase II, proposed at Rs 377 crore, has been fully completed with 287 km of pipeline installation, providing sewage coverage to around 25 wards. Phase III, costing Rs 330 crore, will extend the network to 16 wards. Mayor Mu Anbalagan stated that pending work will be completed by December, followed by trial runs supervised by a project management consultant before submission of a completion report.

Simultaneously, construction of a centralised sewage treatment plant (STP) at Panjapur, sanctioned at Rs 237.8 crore, has been fast-tracked. This facility will process wastewater from both phases II and III. Additionally, the Corporation has identified 230 roadworks across zones I–IV, to be redeveloped at Rs 15.4 crore, including a Rs 12 crore loan from TUFIDCO. Road restoration is targeted before the northeast monsoon, addressing damage from UGD and water projects.
