Larsen & Toubro (L&T) led consortium has been
awarded the contract for conducting the feasibility study for the Rs.15,000
crore multi modal international passenger and cargo hub airport proposed to
come up at Nagpur. The other companies in the consortium are Ramboll, Crisil
and Zurich Airport Consultancy. The consortium’s fee would be Rs.2.97 crore.
Maharashtra State Road Development
Corporation (MSRDC), the nodal agency for the project selected the consortium based
on the short listed bidders, who had submitted their bids in September 2000.
The consortium would submit the techno economic
feasibility study within eight months, while a detailed master plan for the
project would have to be submitted within four months. The feasibility report
would be related to volume of both passenger and cargo traffic and its handling
capacity, various agencies that would be involved during the development of the
project, project cost, revenue model, options to raise funds and marketing
strategy.
The project would include upgradation of the existing
Nagpur airport runway to handle wide body aircraft, construction of runway in
phase II and development of world class infrastructure for
transit/trans-shipment cargo of speedy clearance and state-of-the-art
facilities for both domestic and international transit, etc.
