Lam Research has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government to acquire land in Whitefield, Bengaluru, to expand its operations.
The company's supply chain expansion in India began in July 2024, with several custom parts qualifying for global operations. Plans are in place to scale these efforts over the next few years to enhance global supply chain resilience.
The Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM), with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore, has approved five major projects. These include India’s first semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, a joint venture between Tata Electronics and Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) with an investment of Rs 91,000 crore.
Additionally, two outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facilities will be set up in Sanand, Gujarat, and Morigaon, Assam. Tata Electronics is spearheading an OSAT unit in Morigaon with a Rs 27,000 crore investment, while CG Power and Industrial Solutions will develop a Sanand OSAT plant under the Modified ATMP Scheme with an investment of Rs 7,500 crore.
