Karnataka Cabinet subcommittee, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has approved special incentives for three major semiconductor projects proposed by Applied Materials, Lam Research, and Bharat Semi Systems.
The decision, seen as a significant push towards making Karnataka a global semiconductor hub, was confirmed by IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge. Applied Materials will invest Rs 4,851 crore to establish India’s first R&D Fab – Innovation Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing (ICSM) in Bengaluru, expected to create 1,500 work opportunities. This centre will serve as a platform for advanced chip and display technology innovation.
Lam Research will set up two facilities in Karnataka: an advanced R&D lab with Rs 6,790 crore investment and a semiconductor silicon component manufacturing unit with Rs 9,111 crore investment, delivering capabilities in 2 nm tech and silicon ingots, and generating employment for 1,400 persons.
Bharat Semi Systems will invest Rs 2,342 crore in Mysuru for an integrated design and fab unit focusing on compound semiconductors like silicon carbide and gallium nitride, vital for defense, telecom, and green tech,with employment potential for 620 individuals.
