The Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway, a 63-km, six-lane access-controlled corridor (expandable to eight lanes), is nearing completion and is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities to just one hour.
Designated as National Expressway 6, the project runs parallel to NH 27, connecting key areas including Bani, Kantha, and Amarsas, and ends near Azad Marg in Kanpur. As per officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) only minor finishing works remain, likely to be completed by early December. Over Rs 800 crore has been paid for land acquisition across 42 villages.
The expressway also intersects the Ganga Expressway in Unnao, improving regional connectivity. Infrastructure includes five toll plazas, three rest areas with medical facilities, and six entry/exit ramps. While most sections are done, the 18-km elevated stretch in Lucknow is still under construction, with full completion expected by 30 November, 2025, followed by the formal inauguration.
