The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has finalised plans for its fifth construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing plant at Tehkhand, set to enhance the city’s waste management and reduce road dust pollution.
The plant will process 1,000 tonne per day (TPD) of C&D waste, helping bridge the current processing gap. Additionally, the MCD has issued letters of intent to set up 14 new material recovery facilities, which will help segregate and process waste at the source, reducing landfill burden. The Tehkhand facility will bring Delhi's total processing capacity to 6,000 TPD, with future expansion potential up to 2,000 TPD. The project is expected to be completed within a year.
This initiative is a key step toward managing the approx. 6,000MT of C&D waste Delhi generates daily. The four MCD plants at Bakkarwala, Jahangirpuri, Rani Khera, and Shastri Park process around 5,000 TPD, while the Tehkhand plant is expected to address the remaining gap, according to an official.
