Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has set July 2026 as the deadline for completing the Rs 88-crore Rao Birender Singh Sports Complex in Wazirabad.
Announced nearly a decade ago by former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the project has been moving at a sluggish pace. Officials, however, now claim construction is on track with 15 percent of the work already completed. During a site inspection on 03 September, 2025, MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya directed engineers and contractors to ensure that the project sticks to the timeline. "This sports complex will provide Gurgaon's youth with a worldclass platform for training and competitions. It will give a new identity to the city's sporting infrastructure," he said.
The work was allotted to a Panchkula-based firm in June last year. Officials said excavation and foundation work are completed. Spread across 11.07 acres, the facility is designed to offer a wide range of modern amenities. It will include three multipurpose halls, a canteen, and courts for basketball, badminton, lawn tennis, and volleyball, along with designated spaces for kabaddi, judo, boxing, gymnastics, table tennis, cricket, and a shooting range.
Additionally, the project will also have weightlifting zones, training and preparation rooms, a skating rink, yoga court, cycling and walking tracks, a kids' play area, gazebos, and an open-air theatre. Parking for 100 cars and 75 two-wheelers has been planned, in addition to 14 electric vehicle charging stations.
