Reliance Infrastructure (RIL) will develop 70 hectares of open space along the Mumbai Coastal Road at a cost of Rs 400 crore. Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, announced this at RIL’s Annual General Meeting.
The initiative follows Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) invitation for private entities to transform reclaimed land into public spaces. The Coastal Road Gardens and promenade, spread across 130 acres, will include walkways, cycling tracks, plazas, and landscaped greenery.
The development and upkeep will be managed under RIL’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative for 30 years. Of the 111 hectares reclaimed, BMC allocated 70 hectares for public landscapes, with Tata Sons beautifying five hectares of medians. Other bids came from Jindal, Raymond, RPG Foundation, and Vedanta.
