The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will acquire land for construction of one of the two car depots for Metro Line 4. The land will be acquired in Kasarvadavali, Thane in Maharashtra.
While MMRDA is still in talks with different Central and state agencies to acquire a plot of land in Wadala or its nearby areas to build a car shed in Mumbai, for its Thane leg it has now decided to acquire a private land.
A total of 20 acre of land will be required. Metro Line 4 was initially planned from Wadala to Kasawadawali. The length of the corridor was 32.3 km and the cost was pegged at Rs 14,549 crore. Later, MMRDA extended it to Gaymukh in Thane and to GPO on the southern side in Mumbai.
