The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced plans to demolish and reconstruct the Elphinstone Bridge in Lower Parel, Mumbai  as part of the Sewri-Worli Connector project. The redevelopment is aimed at increasing the bridge's height and width while integrating the new link over it.

Once completed, the new bridge will be a double-decker flyover over railway tracks, making it the second such structure in Mumbai after the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road. The improved bridge will enhance connectivity between Senapati Bapat Road and Dr BR Ambedkar Road. Additionally, an extension will provide direct access to the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) at Sewri and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, improving long-term traffic movement.

The completed connector is set to cut down travel time between Sewri and Worli from 40–60 minutes to under 10 minutes. The four-lane connector will consist of two lanes in each direction, improving overall accessibility and easing congestion. Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Traffic Police,Anil Kumbhare stated that a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the closure will be issued soon.

However, political discussions around the timing of the demolition have emerged. The reconstruction of the Elphinstone Bridge is part of Mumbai's broader infrastructure overhaul, aimed at modernizing connectivity and reducing commuting time for residents.
