The Tamil Nadu Highways Department has planned 132 works under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme (CRIDP) 2025-26, with a combined outlay of Rs 561.50 crore.
Spanning 230.68 km, the projects cover Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts. Planned interventions include road widening, stormwater drain construction, and culvert building. Tiruvallur will see 76.66 km widened, Kancheepuram 22.1 km, Chengalpattu 31.2 km, and Chennai about nine km. Among key works, the Naidu Kuppam–Edumadurai Road in Tiruvallur will be expanded from a single lane to an intermediate lane at a cost of Rs 1.68 crore. To mitigate flooding, seven culverts and bridges worth Rs 90.30 crore are planned. Permanent flood restoration includes completing macro drains on the Pallavaram– Thoraipakkam Road (1.6 km) and OMR–ECR stretch (800 mtrs.), budgeted at Rs 26.20 crore.
Tenders have been floated. Additionally, riding quality improvements will be executed on Maddur–Alamelumangapuram and NN Kandigai–Nalattur roads, along with junction upgrades at Sadras–Tiruttani Road. Strengthening works are also set for Tiruvottiyur– Ponneri–Panchetty Road. Officials said the initiative aims to “ensure smoother traffic flow and long-term flood resilience.”
