To support Nashik’s growing power demands and prepare for the upcoming Kumbh Mela, the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MSETCL) has proposed setting up three new 33/11KV substations.
The plan was presented to the Kumbh Mela committee and includes sites at Vilholi, MERI, and the Trimbakeshwar side—each strategically positioned on the outskirts of Nashik to strengthen the city's power infrastructure. "Vilholi is on the Mumbai side of Nashik city, MERI is on the Dindori side, and the third one is on the Trimbakeshwar side. These three locations will cater to the local power demands and strengthen the power infrastructure," said the officer.
Current substations are operating beyond their capacity due to a rise in construction and urban expansion, making additional infrastructure essential. The Kumbh Mela, scheduled between 2026 and 2028, is expected to bring a significant surge in power usage, particularly during the Amrut Snan periods of July, August, and September.
