Mahanagar Gas (MGL), a leading Indian city gas distribution company, has launched multiple clean energy initiatives as part of its strategy to diversify beyond traditional gas services.
The company, which serves over 28 lakh households and 11 lakh vehicles, is expanding into electric mobility, renewable power generation, and bio-gas. MGL has invested Rs 96 crore in 3EV Industries, focusing on electric three-wheelers, and formed a joint venture with International Battery Company to set up a lithium-ion cell gigafactory. In partnership with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), it is also developing a municipal solid waste-based compressed bio-gas plant.
Additionally, MGL has entered LNG retailing through a joint venture and is building a 6.5 MW solar power plant to supply energy to its CNG stations. These initiatives align with MGL’s commitment to supporting India’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
