The Maharashtra government has approved the construction of 500 new Gram Panchayat office buildings under the Revised Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) for the financial year 2025–26, with a total budget of Rs 324.28 crore.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing rural governance by establishing proper administrative infrastructure in villages lacking safe or functional panchayat buildings. Of the total, 127 buildings will be built in Vidarbha, with 73 in the Amravati Division (Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana, Washim) and 54 in the Nagpur Division (Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Wardha), giving the region a significant share of the new infrastructure.
Each approved panchayat will receive Rs 25 lakh — Rs 20 lakh for constructing the building and Rs five lakh for a Citizen Service Centre (CSC room), equipped for digital and utility services. The funding will follow a 60:40 ratio between the central and state governments. Villages selected must have over 3,000 population and either lack a panchayat building or use unsafe structures.
Zilla Parishads and district administrations have been instructed to start construction post land and legal clearance, ensuring transparency, standardised plans, and close monitoring.
