Hyderabad-based Maytas-NCC consortium is likely to be selected as the developer of Machilipatnam minor port in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

Transport, Roads and Buildings department (TR&B) has also reported that only Maytas-NCC consortium had submitted the financial bid for the development project, which was opened on 16 June 2006.

Earlier, the department had shortlisted Reliance, Zoom Technologies, Tamil Nadu Molasses Co. (TMC) and L&T ECC besides Maytas from nine bidders following the screening of technical bids submitted by them.

It was also learnt that Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Enterprises had lost interest in the project after the government expressed its inability to provide 25,000-50,000 acres of land sought by them as part of the port development activity soon after the technical evaluation of the bids.

The state government invited bids for the development of Machilipatnam port in the year 2005 with an estimated investment between Rs.500 crore and Rs.800 crore providing about 6,000 acres of land under the project.
