The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to hire new waste management agencies for its West, South, and Central zones, with contracts proposed for a seven-year period. The initiative aims to improve municipal solid waste collection, domestic hazardous waste storage, and sanitation services across these regions.
This move follows anticipatory approval recently granted by MCD’s deliberative wing for a six-month concessionaire in the Central zone, where the current contractor’s third extension is nearing completion. The proposal will be tabled in the upcoming house meeting for administrative approval and expenditure sanction before being forwarded to the standing committee for finalisation. The current West Zone contract ends in June 2025, while the south zone contract may be extended until April 2026. Interim extensions will be granted until new agencies are appointed.
The total estimated cost is Rs 1,123 crore (West), Rs 1,170 crore (South), and Rs 932.5 crore (Central). The project will follow a PPP model with design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) framework.
