The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) are working on several road projects to improve connectivity to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport.
These roads are expected to alleviate traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. NHAI has started constructing a major interchange at Savaravalli, with plans for the road to be completed by May or June. As part of the development, VMRDA has identified 15 major roads in its Master Plan, seven of which are key for enhancing access to the airport. These roads, costing Rs 175 crore, are also scheduled for completion by May. Additionally, key stretches like Gambheeram and Divis Road are being developed to further ease travel.
The state government has also directed NHAI to plan a six-lane coastal highway to connect Visakhapatnam to the airport, which will improve regional connectivity. A Metro-cum-double-decker flyover is also being considered to ease city traffic.
