The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has approved a significant investment of Rs 90 crore to enhance water distribution infrastructure in the city’s rapidly expanding peripheral zones.
The plan includes laying approx. 100 km of pipeline across key areas such as Makhmalabad, Mhasrul, Adgaon, New Indira Nagar, and Pathardi. Tendering has already been completed, with work set to begin post-monsoon this year, according to an NMC official. This initiative is part of the central government's Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme, with half the funding provided by the Centre and the remaining half by the NMC.
Civic authorities emphasised that water sourced from Gangapur dam currently meets 80 percent of the city's demand, with the rest supplied by Mukane and Darna dams. Nashik's population has surged from around 16 lakh in 2013 to approx. 23 lakh in 2025, pushing daily water demand from 380 MLD to 560 MLD. As new residential pockets mushroom on the outskirts, the NMC’s pipeline expansion seeks to match and sustain this growing requirement, ensuring continuous water supply to all six civic divisions. The planned work aims to prevent shortages and support robust urban development.
