NMDC proposes to set up a five-million tpa integrated steel plant in
Karnataka at an investment of Rs 9,200 crore. The company has signed an
MoU in this regard during the Global Investors Meet (GIM 2010). It is currently
scouting for land in Bellary.
The proposed project is to be funded through the company's internal
resources. In this regard, the company has approached the state government.
Initially, it plans to begin with two million tpa capacity. Also, the company is
scouting for a JV partner for the project.
The Karnataka Government has in principle agreed to allot 2,500 acre for the
project. However, the company is yet to finalise the location for the plant.
