NTPC is planning to invest Rs 480 crore in renewable energy projects during
fiscal 2010-11.
NTPC has already completed feasibility studies for 100 MW of wind energy
projects in Karnataka, 8 MW small hydro energy project in Uttar Pradesh and a 15
MW solar energy project in Rajasthan.
The company has set a target of developing 1,010 MW capacity up to 2017 using
renewable energy resources such as wind, hydro, solar and biomass at an
investment of about Rs 6,000 crore.
While NTPC plans to take up most of these green projects on its own, it has
formed JV with the Asian Development Bank, GE Energy Financial Services, Kyushu
Electric Power Company and Brookfield Renewable Power to undertake renewable power
generation.
The JV company is planning to develop greenfield and under utilised potential
sites to establish around 500 MW of renewable power generation sources in India,
including wind power, mini and micro-hydro electric power.
