The Electrical and Automation Company, part of L&T has secured a Rs 212 crore
order from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDC) to
integrate power distribution in Maharashtra and facilitate online monitoring.
The contract involves automatic meter reading, GIS mapping and setting up of
an IT/communication network for a 2.28 million consumer distribution network
across 95 towns. The order is to be completed in 18 months.
The initiative is part of the Rs 50,000-crore Restructured Accelerated Power
Development and Reforms Programme of the Union Ministry of Power to automate the
distribution process to curtail aggregate technical and commercial losses. While
Rs 40,000 crore has been set aside for infrastructure, the balance is for system
integration.
