On 17 December, 2025, the board of Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) approved an investment for the refurbishment of the Bhadrawati (Chandrapur) HVDC (2 X 500 MW) back-to-back system.
The project, which falls under the additional capital expenditure for the 2024-29 tariff block, is estimated to cost Rs 1,226.93 crore. The refurbishment aims to enhance the system's efficiency and reliability, with an implementation schedule set for 36 months from the date of the award.
This approval reflects Power Grid’s continued efforts to upgrade and maintain critical infrastructure, ensuring a robust power transmission network across India.
