REC, a central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, is developing a residential complex for its employees in Gurugram, Haryana. The foundation stone for the complex was laid by the Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy R. K. Singh on 22 December, 2023.
The upcoming complex would accommodate facilities such residence, health and education of children highlights the importance of fostering a supportive and nurturing community for its workforce. With this, REC aims to provide dedicated housing for REC's employees reflecting the progressive approach towards employee welfare.
The Minister stated that the nation has 161 GW of electricity capacity under construction, which will augment to 239 GW and will have 100 GW of capacity under construction for the next two decades, for which REC and Power Finance Corporation (PFC) will have to mobilize funds. Around 27,000 MW of thermal capacity is under construction and later would be increased to 80,000 MW.
In addition, the contract demand is likely to increase at a rapid pace, and the power capacity is expected to grow, for which, REC and PFC are anticipated to make a key contribution to support this growth.
REC provides long-term loans and other finance products for the power-infrastructure sector comprising generation, transmission, distribution, renewable energy and new technologies such as electric vehicles, battery storage, green hydrogen, and others. Recently, it has also diversified into the non-power infrastructure sector comprising roads, metro rail, airports, IT communication, and ports, among others.
