The Delhi government is evaluating four possible sites for constructing a new integrated secretariat: the Rajghat thermal power plant, Khyber Pass in Civil Lines, ITO MSO building, and Indraprastha Estate near the new WHO building, Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma said.
The defunct Rajghat power plant offers about 18 acres, 70 percent owned by Delhi govternment and the rest by DDA. Minister Verma suggested a high-rise structure could be built on a public-private partnership model to recover project costs.
At present, CM Rekha Gupta, Cabinet Ministers, and top officials operate from the Players' Building, whileseveral senior offices —including revenue, labour, GST, education, transport, excise, and food & civil supplies commissioners, have to function from scattered locations. Last week, CM Gupta stressed the urgent need for a modern, Centralised Secretariat to improve working conditions.
Players' Building, originally a hotel for the 1982 Asian Games, was later repurposed as a Secretariat. The government aims to finalise a site soon to bring all departments under one roof.
