Ramkrishna Forgings is set to begin forged wheel production from a new Rs 2,000 crore facility in Chennai by FY27. The plant, which will have an annual capacity of 2,28,000 forged wheels, marks the company’s strategic expansion into this high-potential vertical. The project is being funded through a mix of debt and equity.
According to Managing Director Naresh Jalan, initial production will begin with 40,000 wheels in FY27, scaling up to 1,00,000 by FY28. Ramkrishna Forgings, in partnership with Titagarh Rail Systems with 51 percent stake, had earlier secured a letter of award (LoA) for manufacturing and supplying forged wheels to Indian Railways.
The company is also diversifying into undercarriage manufacturing, having received prototype orders from Indian Railways. First deliveries for fully assembled undercarriages are expected in July. Revenue from the undercarriage segment is projected at Rs 250-300 crore over the next two years. This expansion strengthens Ramkrishna Forgings’ position as a key supplier in the railway component manufacturing space.
