Ranbaxy Laboratories has taken steps to set
up its third research and development (R&D) centre and global headquarters
at Gurgaon in Haryana, located about 40 kms from Delhi.
The R&D III centre is estimated to
entail an investment of $10 million (approx Rs.46 crore) and likely to be
completed in the second quarter of 2005. The centre with a capacity of around
750 employees, will essentially focus on areas such as medicinal and process
chemistry, biological screening, pre-clinical development, early clinical
development, New Chemical Entities (NCEs) and Novel Drug Delivery Systems
(NDDS).
Ranbaxy is also investing close to Rs.40
crore in developing its international headquarters-cum-corporate office
building, also in Gurgaon. Cushman & Wakefield have been appointed as the
project manager and Rajinder Kumar & Associates, as its architects.
The 2.4 lakh sq.ft. office, divided into
four blocks, will accommodate about 1,000 empolyees. Civil works are now in
progress with completion scheduled for September/ October 2004. The company’s offices
currently in operation at various locations in Delhi will shift to the new
premises after completion.
