The National Highway division of Maharashtra’s Public Works Department (PWD) has begun work on the long-pending Chinchbhuvan to Mihan Interchange flyover project in Nagpur.
The project, valued at Rs 619.55 crore and awarded to a Bhopal-based firm, will be completed within 24 months. To avoid traffic disruption during the winter session of the state legislature, the PWD has first started road-widening work instead of flyover construction. The project includes a 2.69 km six-lane flyover, reconstruction of the existing four-lane road beneath it, and widening of a 3.05 km stretch of Wardha Road to six lanes near the Mihan Interchange. The PWD has sought permission to cut 415 trees, and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has invited objections from citizens.
The new flyover is expected to ease congestion, reduce accidents on the busy Nagpur–Hyderabad highway (NH-44), and improve traffic flow at one of the city's busiest entry points, Chinchbhuvan.
