On 13 December 2022, the Cabinet Sub-Committee of Maharashtra, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde approved investment proposals totaling Rs 70,000 crore in various districts of the state. These investment proposals are expected to create employment opportunities for 55,000 people.
Of the investment proposals cleared, the largest one was that of Mahindra Electric Vehicle Automobiles. The company in collaboration with Volkswagen plans to manufacture electric vehicles. A new plant would be set up in Pune at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore.
The Cabinet Sub-Committee approved three major projects in Vidarbha's Naxal-affected districts -- Gadchiroli and Chandrapur. In Chandrapur district, Newera Cleantech Solutions would set up a coal gasification project to manufacture green hydrogen, methanol, ammonia and urea. Two mega steel projects are planned in the Gadchiroli district. Lloyd Metals and Varad Ferro Alloys plan new steel mills in the Gadchiroli region.
Additionally, the Committee cleared three more investment proposals. A Rs 2,500 crore investment proposal of Indorama, the textile manufacturing company; a Rs 1,650 crore proposal of Nipro Pharma to manufacture pharmaceutical glass tubing manufacturing unit and a Rs 4,206 crore life savings drugs manufacturing unit of Reliance Life Science Nashik.
