In a significant move towards sustainable infrastructure and India’s Net Zero target by 2070, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to install solar power plants along the elevated section of the Delhi–Saharanpur–Dehradun Highway (NH-709B).
The partnership aims to utilise solar energy to power highway infrastructure, reducing carbon emissions and advancing clean energy integration into road projects. The initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development, with Minister Harsh Malhotra highlighting its role in fostering a cleaner environment.
This project is set to become a model for similar renewable energy efforts on national highways, supporting India’s broader agenda for green growth and a net-zero future by 2070.
