The MoEF has accorded clearance to Athena Chhattisgarh Power Private for
setting up the 2x600 MW Singhitarai thermal power project in the Janjgir-Champa
district of Chhattisgarh. The project is estimated to cost Rs 5,700 crore, which
includes Rs 490 crore for environmental protection measures.
The power plant is likely to come up on 930 acre and the project will require
5.733 million tpa of coal, which is to be sourced from the coal mines of the
South-Eastern Coalfields. The total water requirement for the project is pegged
at 35 million cubic mtrs, which is to be sourced from the Mahanadi river.
