Maharashtra state law department has approved the demolition of Mulund Court, one of the oldest government buildings in Mumbai’s eastern suburbs, due to severe disrepair.
The 1945-built structure, located near Mulund College of Commerce, serves multiple police stations, but portions of its ceiling and slabs have collapsed over time. The Rs 86.97 crore project will replace it with a modern 12-storey court complex, which will also feature a vulnerable witness deposition centre and a Lok Adalat.
Local MLA Mihir Kotecha welcomed the move, emphasising the importance of the new facility for over 500 government employees and 1,000 citizens who rely on the court daily. The project aims to improve safety and efficiency in judicial operations
