The Kalaignar International Convention Centre, located in Muttukadu, Tamil Nadu, is slated for completion by February 2026.
Public Works Minister EV Velu reviewed the ongoing construction of this major infrastructure project, aimed at transforming Chennai into a key destination for large-scale events. The Rs 525-crore project, initiated by the Public Works Department (PWD) in May 2025, spans 37.99 acres and includes a 2.08 lakh sq. ft. building.
The centre will feature a 91,924 sq. ft. exhibition hall that can host 10,000 people, a convention hall with 5,000 seats, and a 1,500-seat auditorium. Additionally, it will have dining facilities and parking for over 3,300 vehicles. Once completed, the centre will significantly enhance Tamil Nadu's global identity. Senior officials, including Mangat Ram Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary of PWD, attended the review meeting.
